Spider by Ashwings Spider by Ashwings
Took a picture of a spider this afternoon! Dunno what kind of spider this is. It's abdomen is about the size of a quarter. The web was about the size of a beach ball, and it is camping out on our deck! D:

Woo!

I would scream and let it live until someone ELSE kills it. I'm a MAJOR arachniphobe. I can't even kill a spider. My brother actually killed a spider for me last night.

Psssh. If a spider the size of a quarter is huge, see the spiders we have in Singapore. xDDD
I saw one that was a close size to my entire arm. Forget the web. @_@
Unfortunately... I really don't know what it's called besides "Big Spiders".

It is a barn spider, the same kind of spider that Charlotte from E.B. White's book, Charlotte's web is.

Wikipedia:
Charlotte gives her full name as "Charlotte A. Cavatica", revealing her as a barn spider, an orb-weaver with the scientific name Araneus cavaticus. [link]

b.b

I did a little research on the UNL Entomology website (Because it was one of the few that popped up on google first, [link]) and compairing their photos to this one I have determined

:drumroll:

That it is a Barn Spider!
Also known as a nocturnal garden orb spinner upon further research.

I just compared the patterns on the legs, the spines on the legs, abdomen shap and coloration of the ';plumage'.

Looks like a common garden spider, we have a huge one outside. But the british one looks.. rather different, if not similar. I might take a photo of it tomorrow.

We had a Golden Silk Orbweaver outside our deck once, she was as long as my fist (his web was four by five feet too!) We would feed her pieces of turkey and chicken. :D She really liked it. Though, I didn't enjoy it when I walked into her unoccupied web one day. Almost leaped into our pool in the dead of winter.
