A kind of grass?
What's interesting is that from this angle, and with my botany-ignorant self, my first reaction is that the plants look like they ought be trees. Strange looking trees, but trees. But the snow indicates that they're much smaller.

This is going in my notes. Its completely surreal, and wonderful.
